Alabama Wins 2023 High School Recruiting Title

After signing five five-star and 21 four-star prospects in the 2023 cycle, Alabama will unofficially claim the 2023 high school team recruiting title with National Signing Day nearing its end.

Rivals will award two more 2023 Recruiting Champions this year – the Transfer Portal Team Champion and the Overall Team Champion, who will blend the High School Team and Transfer Portal rankings. The final two tag team champions will be crowned this summer, before the teams report to training camp.

But as far as the high school recruiting champ goes, this one’s on the books and Alabama won its 10th title since 2008. It’s by far the most of any program in the country and doubles the recruiting crowns of the second-place program, USC, which has five recruiting titles. Georgia has three championships.

Alabama’s class includes three national top-10 prospects in Tampa (Florida) Berkeley Prep defensive end Keon Keeley, Pleasant Hill (Iowa) Polk Southeast offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor and Hoschton (Ga.) the safety of Mill Creek Caleb Downs.

The Crimson Tide was also able to land the biggest reclassification prospect of 2024 in Bradenton, Fla. Five-star IMG Academy cornerback Desmond Ricks along with top state target Yhonzae Pierre.

Arguably the strongest running back in the nation, the Crimson Tide landed Judge Haynes and Richard Young, who are No. 1 and No. 6 running back, respectively.

After losing Bryce Young, Alabama will welcome two four-star quarterbacks from the 2023 cycle, including Louisiana product Eli Holstein and Georgia product Dylan Lonergan.

Staying on the offensive end of the ball, the Crimson Tide also claim the strongest offensive line group in the nation, as four members of the Rivals250 will block up front in Tuscaloosa, including Proctor, State targets Ryqueze McElderry and Wilkin. Formby and Miles McVay, No. 1 prospect from Illinois. Also joining that group is Connecticut No. 1 prospect Olaus Alinen of Finland.

On the defensive end of the ball, JUCO No. 2 prospect in the nation, linebacker Justin Jefferson, committed to the Crimson Tide early in his process and remained locked in throughout his drafting.

Ahead of Jefferson on the defensive line are seven four- and five-star prospects, including state products Pierre, Jaquavious Russaw, Hunter Osborne and James Smith, as well as Keeley, Jordan Renaud and Edric Hill.

Fresh out of a national championship, Georgia sits in the top two with the possibility of landing five-star Duce Robinson late in the process.

Among the class signers, the defensive line group is in a class of its own with three five-star prospects including Damon Wilson, Jordan Hall and Samuel M’Pemba. Gabriel Harris and Jamaal Jarrett top the five-star rating with a 6.0 Rivals rating.

Offensively, four-star tight end Pearce Spurlin and four-star running back Roderick Robinson II are talented weapons that can contribute early in the first year before assuming starting positions in their second seasons.

In Steve SarkisianIn the second Texas scouting round, the Longhorns managed to crack the top three for the first time since 2012 behind three five-star additions, including first prospect Arch Manning, Johntay Cook and Anthony Hill.

Hill is headlining a linebacker battling for the nation’s strongest as the group also includes in-state four-star targets S’Maje Burrell and Derion Gullette, as well as Lehi (Utah) Skyridge four-star Tausili Akana and the first-ever Texas signer. from the state of Hawaii to Liona Lefau.

The Texas class has the potential to add at least one more target as the Longhorns remain in the mix for Duce Robinson and thick in the race to topple four-star Red Oak (Texas) safety Warren Roberson of TCU.

As Ohio State continues to boast one of the strongest offenses in college football, the Buckeyes’ offensive recruiting classes continue to shine above the rest, especially at wide receiver. The 2023 cycle is no different as Ohio State’s two five-stars are both at wide receiver with Carnell Tate and Brandon Inniss both signing in December.

Defensively, Ohio State’s secondary haul also played a big part in pushing the Buckeyes into the top five as four-stars Calvin Simpson-Hunt and Jermaine Matthews flirted with five-star status late in the cycle while Malik Hartford is also featured in Rivals250.

In Brian KellyIn his first season as head coach, LSU exceeded expectations on the field and it spilled over to the recruiting track where the Tigers slipped into the top five for the first time since 2021.

The class is led by its only five-star offensive tackle, Monroe (La.) Neville, Zalance Heard, who earned the coveted fifth star after a solid run of playoff All-Star games.

LSU secured the signings of 16 Rivals250 prospects, including some big late risers who also shone on the all-star scene, including four-star tight end Ka’Morreun Pimpton and Whit Weeks.

However, what is most heartening for LSU fans is the Tigers’ success within state lines as 10 Louisiana natives travel to Baton Rouge to play for Kelly, who has received a lot of criticism early in his term for not being supposed to recruit the state.
