Former Ole Miss Cornerback Davison Igbinosun Moves to Ohio State

Ohio State bolstered their cornerback unit by landing the best player available in the transfer portal.

Davison Igbinosun, who was ranked by 247Sports as the 10th best player to enter the transfer portal during the winter transfer window, announced his commitment to Ohio State on Tuesday, becoming the sixth transfer addition for the Buckeyes this offseason.

Igbinosun picked the Buckeyes after visiting Ohio State on Saturday. Tennessee was initially supposed to be the favorite for his commitment and Igbinosun also made visits to UCLA and Michigan, but he eventually decided to become a Buckeye.

The New Jersey native, who was a four-star rookie in the 2022 class, brings three years of eligibility to Ohio State after an impressive freshman season at Ole Miss in which he started 10 games , made 37 total tackles and five pass breakups and was named an honorable mention Freshman All-American by College Football News.

Igbinosun is now expected to compete with Jordan Hancock, Jyaire Brown and the rest of Ohio State’s cornerbacks to start against Denzel Burke in 2023. Buckeyes were expected to have just six stock cornerbacks prior to his transfer.

Prior to his engagement, Igbinosun was the only remaining player in the top 20 of 247Sports 2023 Transfer Portal Rankings who did not commit. He was ranked by 247Sports as the fourth-best cornerback to enter the portal during the winter window behind Travis Hunter (who traded from Jackson State to Colorado), Denver Harris (Texas A&M to LSU) and Fentrell Cypress. (Virginia to Florida State).

He is the second defensive back to be traded to Ohio State this offseason along with former Syracuse guard Ja’Had Carter. He’s the sixth overall transfer addition for the Buckeyes since December, joining former Oregon State quarterback Tristan Gebbia, Louisiana-Monroe offensive lineman Victor Cutler, long snapper Arizona State John Ferlmann and Kent State kicker Casey Magyar (a favorite).
