There are few greater joys than boarding an airplane and finding the seat next to you is empty. What if you had the whole plane to yourself?
It’s called a “ghost flight”, and a man recently found himself in this strange and somewhat frightening scenario after booking a trip to Fiji for his birthday.
According to his now-viral TikTok, posted on January 16, the trip took place in January 2022. That’s when Robbie Allen (@robbieallen) arrived at Sydney Airport in Australia, to be met by a ghost town once arrived. at his door.
It’s not like Allen booked a budget carrier to get there — he flew with Virgin Airlines and booked a business class ticket to make his trip even more luxurious. Little did he know that he probably could have saved some money since the whole plane was at his disposal.
“When I got on they were like, ‘You’re the only person, you’re the only person on the plane,'” Allen recounts in the video.
At one point the captain came over to sit and chat with him, and throughout the flight staff kept dropping by to check in and offer him “anything he wanted”.
In other words, Allen was living his best life for the four and a half hour trip.
“I like, literally having the whole plane to myself,” he laughs while panning the camera to show how empty the flight is. “I am the VIP! »
In the comments, many people weighed in on how they would have reacted in his place.
“It’s literally an introvert’s dream!” wrote one person. “That’s me. I’m the introvert lol.
“Having the toilet for yourself!” someone else cried.
“That must have been so sick,” another user added.
However, a few people said they would be weird.
“My anxiety could never…” one person admitted.
“How lonely would that be?” someone else said.
“I would panic at the empty fate thinking I had the wrong door!” another person shared.
Allen had a similar initial reaction, writing, “It was scary at first, but then amazing” in his caption.
Believe it or not, a few people have even shared similar experiences on other flights.
“Happened to me on a flight from Japan to Australia,” one person wrote. “Seriously. I was the only person on the plane.
“That’s exactly what happened when I flew to Dubai, but there were two of us,” someone else said. “We got together and talked about it.”
In the end, Allen’s grand theft got even better when he went to baggage claim and immediately found his suitcase with no problem.
The trip itself was pretty sweet too. In several follow-up videos, the TikToker shared views of his hotel in Fiji, where staff treated him like royalty on his birthday, and he chilled out in the pool for most of his stay.
“I had an amazing trip, as I always do when I go to Fiji,” Allen wrote in one of his TikTok captions. “There are so many things to do and the resorts are all beautiful!
