Philadelphia recently learned that star Eagles quarterback and objectively sexy person Jalen Hurts has apparently had a girlfriend this whole time. Her name is Bryonna “Bry” Burrows, and they’ve been dating since they met in Alabama. She has an MBA and an absolutely private Instagram account (Bio: “love language: wine”).
The news that the town’s favorite idol, potential MVP and charming all-rounder who just wants to give the game all it has in a romantic relationship has sent some Hurts fans into the abyss, and others trying to stay positive about their own chances with him. Philly loves an underdog, after all.
Hurts has apparently been with Burrows again since 2016. Some fans wanted to believe that she was not his girlfriend, but rather his agent, Nicole Lynn, the first black woman to represent an NFL quarterback at the Super Bowl. (It’s not, it’s his girlfriend.)
(Hurts has an all-female management team, which sets him apart in a male-dominated industry and also illustrates how he isn’t threatened by powerful women and instead wants to surround himself with them while paying them lots of money. ‘silver.)
“I just found out Jalen is hurting a girlfriend, I won’t be available for the next 24-48 hours as I’m in mourning,” a Twitter post user wrote.
“Seeing Jalen Hurts’ girlfriend makes me happy but very sad at the same time,” another wrote.
Love for Hurts spans identities. When the Eagle Nation Account posted that “Female Eagles fans across America fell to their knees seeing this”, the men weighed in to say they too were devastated.
It’s probably because from an evolutionary biology perspective, Jalen Hurts is pretty much perfect. That’s according to the experts.
“The brain is wired to choose a mate,” said Gayle Stever, a media psychology professor at Empire State College/State University of New York who studies fandom and celebrity. Hurts appears to be “someone who is going to be a good provider, someone who looks like he is wealthy, who looks like he can take care of his offspring, someone who seems to be kind and generous , which means he would be a good parent.” (She said he was also obviously very handsome.)
And, of course, it also makes a good impression on the parents.
“Jalen is such a well-behaved young man. The son all mums want,” a great-grandmother wrote in a Jalen Hurts Facebook group of 17,000. Many fans said that while they would rather be with Hurts themselves, they were at least happy to see Burrows is Black, due to the perception that black athletes and entertainers date non-blacks when they succeed.
Ultimately, Eagles fans who believe in what is fair and pure can only be happy that Jalen Hurts has found someone talented and successful to love. If he’s fine, we’re all fine.
