National Signing Day is upon us as the 2023 recruitment cycle draws to a close. Here is the latest information collected on the track.
As of Tuesday afternoon, I don’t expect the nation’s No. 1 tight end Duce Robinson sign. Georgia was considered the favorite for much of the process, but the Phoenix (Arizona) Pinnacle standout needs more time to figure things out. Also an elite baseball player, USC, Texas and Oregon round out the finalists with the Trojans seen as the biggest threat to the two-time defending national champions.
With approximately 23 hours remaining before the five-star athlete Port of Nyckoles is due to announce his engagement, I wrote on the South Carolina site that unless something changes, I think Archbishop Carroll of Washington, DC would be a Gamecock. I also told the 247Sports Recruiting Show later that day that Camp Harbor continues to communicate with the other finalists, especially Maryland and Oregon. After making another round of calls, I think the momentum is with the Ducks as this thing nears the finish line. It announces at 1 p.m. (ET). so if that’s true, they must last for 11 hours. I know I’ve been all over this one but I think it looks like the tide turns of this recruiting.
247Sports heard early Wednesday morning from Azuka Harbor, Nyckoles’ father, about their official visit to Eugene over the weekend.
“Nyck had a wonderful visit,” the Harbor elder said.
“The highlight is visiting the village/town of Nike, having lunch with the president of the Oregon Ducks, and meeting a lot of good, kind people.”
I think I’m leaning towards Oregon for Top247 cornerback Rodrick Nice also. USC is the other finalist and I know the Polynesian Bowl buzz favored the Trojans. Maybe he still ends up playing for Lincoln Riley. If the Ducks land in Harbor and Pleasant, they move from No. 10 to No. 7 in the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings.
Trying to nail Top247 quarterback recruiting Jaden Rashada, I think communication has broken down with TCU. With that, you’re starting to like where Arizona State is with Pittsburg (Calif.) High’s talented passer. The Sun Devils received a visit two weekends ago and the Horned Frogs last weekend.
When Top247 offensive tackle Chimdy Ono announces his college decision that I ride with Penn State over Michigan State. If the Nittany Lions add Onoh, they’ll end up with one of the best offensive runs in the country. The Nittany Lions currently have the No. 14 class in the nation.
I still like Kentucky for a four-star lineman William Spencer and believe they are in a good position to knock off 247Sports Composite’s four-star defensive lineman Kendrick Gilbert.
I recorded a 247Sports crystal ball prediction earlier today for Michigan to return a four-star defensive lineman Cameron Brandt from Stanford and predicted Wisconsin would win for the coveted nose tackle Jamel Howard.
I also recorded a 247Sports crystal ball prediction for the running back LJ Martin move from Stanford to BYU.
We’ll see how these guys feel after one more night’s sleep.
